Week 3 - Final Decision

Image
Final Decision After our discussion from last week, we found that there were lots of obstacles to achieve our original goal. If we want two dancers to interact with each other, we will need the wireless touch sensor which might be expensive to us. So, we had to change our plan   (Organized by Vivian) : Concept An interactive costume that responds to varying types of touch and posture with matching moods of procedurally generated music and imagery. End Product A performance art piece in which the costume wearer exists passively in the exhibition space while audience members are encouraged to touch and puppeteer them. Themes Intimacy and discomfort; touch as a creative medium; unusual interface design; wearables and tangible media. After work For this week's work, we distributed into 3 groups again. We decided to use Motion Capture to create some visual effects as the music was created, we also wanted to combine the touch sensor and the wearable stuff, so we had two different group

Week 2 - First Discussion

Course Discussion We get to meet with people who are also interested in music and wearable projects. We brainstormed the function and the appearance of our project. We came up with thousands of possibilities, but we decided our project would be an "interactive costume that responds to varying types of touch with matching moods of procedurally generated music." For the final showcase, we want two dancers wearing our product and dancing with each other, while the music will be created as they touch each other's body parts. In this journal by  Evans and Schubert (2008). , the research shows that expressed and felt emotions in 61% of cases received a positive effect from the music, which, the positive music is m

Week 1- Project Ideas

Project Ideas This week we took the time to browse online and look for the inspirations. I mainly looked at the gaming industry but there was nothing attracted my eyes. After glancing over the discussion board, I found the idea of music created by physical movement very interesting in Lianna Wang's post ( https://youtu.be/GI8wJ1w71WA ). The wearable music interactivity project that Vivian Tian posted is also very interesting ( https://www.notimpossible.com/projects/music-not-impossible ). I'm wondering if we can combine these two ideas together.  Next Week We will form a group and discuss what exactly we can do.
