Week Ten - Polish the show

 Week Ten

We found some inaccurate values sent by the touch sensor last week, so we started to make the hypothesis and fix the body suit. At first, we thought this problem happened because the tapes were stick with each other, or there were some tapes connected with the other region. For example, a piece of tape belongs to the thigh, but it also connects with the bottom part. So, Kaenan and Vivian went through every piece of tape and made them clearer. However, this still would do too much to the result, so we tried the second method, which is to isolate the end of the wire with the bodysuit to decrease the direct contact with the body. To do this we added another layer of tape under the end of the wire, I also tried to wear the motion capture suit on to isolate the contact with the wire. This works pretty well. On the tech side, we also tried to increase or decrease the sensitive threshold for each change on the suit. All these tries worked pretty well! Polishing the suit was actually the most torturous thing. Although it was just two sentences of description here, it needed cooperation from different groups, and we spent a whole afternoon and the evening to get it to work correctly. This is definitely the test of physical strength, intelligence, and patience.

Appreciations

It was a great honor and experience working with these people. We respect each other, and we enjoyed the cooperation. Everyone worked so hard on their part of this project.

Vivian is definitely an excellent organizer. She kept up with every group of progress for the entire 10 weeks. we had a clear To-do list every week, and everyone was assigned the most suitable things to do clearly every week. She is always very calm, endured all the pressures, and puts all the feedback in our project.

The tech groups spent most of their time on this project due to the inconvenience of the workplace. They always stay in the mocap room from when we have access till the end of the day. They also tried things even though they were not in the mocap room. Every time we had a whole group meeting, they had to spend at least two hours just setting up the environment. After we are done with the work, we put things back to where they should be originally.

Most people in the publicity group have a UI/UX background. they couldn't do that much at the beginning, but they are always trying their best in their unfamiliar fields. When we got to the last few weeks, they did their best on graph design, feedback, data analysis, documentation during rehearsal, and even environment decorations. They are being super helpful.

Challenge

The custom group also spent a lot of time doing repeated but creative things. We want to have the pattern of each part on the suit to look not isolated from each other. If patterns are too isolated, people might figure chest is chest, tummy is tummy, and they are going to be careful to not touch the chest. This is definitely against the main purpose of our project.  Beyond this, we also want the tape not to cross the field to send the incorrect value. This was definitely a challenge. Another challenge is that the suit is stretched but the tape is not. Whenever I do some action to make the suit stretch, the tape peels off randomly, so we had to fix it every time. But as long as it stays on the suit, it works for touch sensor.
